Anchorage Association for the Education of Young Children (AAEYC) is an Alaskan affiliate formed under the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). NAEYC was founded in 1926 with Anchorage organizing an affiliate in December 1970. AAEYC promotes quality care and education for young children and their families by offering professional development opportunities to early childhood educators and by supporting families and those who have a vested interested in the young children of our community. In addition, AAEYC participates in the development of standards which strive to ensure high quality programs for young children. AAEYC supports advocacy by disseminating information about public policies and pending legislation and interpreting issues and alternatives at the local, state, and national level. AAEYC collaborates with community members, organizations and agencies to meet the needs of young children and their families.
AAEYC relies on the guidance and support of its Board of Directors. Board members are responsible for ensuring AAEYC’s events and offerings align with the organization’s mission and affiliate agreement with NAEYC. Board members provide strategic direction to the organization and Executive Directors. The board is also responsible for ensuring AAEYC meets the needs of its membership.
Board members are volunteers and serve 2-3 year terms. Open positions will begin their terms in the fall of 2023. The board of directors meets monthly for one hour (combination of in person and zoom) and 1-2 times a year for a full day.
Prospective board members should complete the application linked below. Applications will be reviewed with the current board at monthly meetings. Once reviewed, AAEYC’s Executive Director will contact selected applicants.
